Answers to Frequently Asked Questions for SANYO models using 410A refrigerant

 1 Q: On a KHS1271, can I add electric strip heat?
A: No, electric strip heat can’t be added to a model that came from the factory without
         It.

2 Q: What models have electric strip heat?
A: KHH2672R, THH2672R and the THH3672R. All of these are also heat pumps.

3 Q: When replacing the board on a TH3672R, does the e-prom on the old board have to be installed on the new board?
A: On all 26,000 btu and larger models the old e-prom must be re-used on the new board. Both the indoor and outdoor main boards have e-proms.

4 Q: What type of compressor is used in 410A models?
A: It is a variable speed, DC compressor.

5 Q: How much will the compressor slow down?
A: The 26K (BTU’s) and larger models, will slow down to 9,500 BTU’s.
The 9K and 12K models will slow down to 3,000 BTU’s.
The 18K and 24K models will slow down to 4,000 BTU’s.
The flexi-multi models will slow down to 9,800 BTU’s.

6 Q:  How are the new models wired at installation?
A:  The indoor units get power from the outdoor units and are the same voltage.
1: The 26K BTU through 42K BTU models need 12/3 with a ground and also 18/2
shielded cable between the indoor and outdoor unit.
2: The 9K BTU through 24K BTU and the Flexi-multi models need 14/3 with a
ground between the indoor and outdoor units.

7: Q:  What size condensate drain do the 410A models use?
A:  All of them have an adaptor that goes to ¾” PVC.

8:  Q: Do the new 410A models have auto restart if there is a power failure?
A: Yes, the remote sends a signal every 3 minutes. As long as the remote is left
in a location were it can communicate with the indoor unit, it will restart.

9:  Q: How are the 410A models charged?
A:  Measure the lines and check the installation manual for how many feet your model
comes charged for. If you have a leak the remaining 410A must be pulled out and
new refrigerant weighed in. You can’t charge by superheat but Sanyo models do
run at a low superheat sometimes, 0-5 degrees. Also the gauge port connection is
          5/16. The Ritchie adaptor P/N is 19173.

10:  Q: Will Sanyo models cool in low ambient conditions?
       A:  Some models will.
1: The 26K BTU and larger models are rated down to 0 degrees and don’t lock out.
2:  The 9K-24K BTU heat pumps are rated to 67 and lock out at 50 degrees.
3: The 9K-24K BTU cooling only models (C models) are rated down to 67 degrees
              lock out at 50 degrees.
4: The 9K-12K BTU low ambient models (CL models) are rated down to 0 degrees
and lock out at -4 degrees.
5:  The CL1872 is rated down to 0 degrees and locks out at -8 degrees.
6:  The CL2472 is rated down to 0 degrees and locks out at -13 degrees.
7:  The CM models are rated down to 67 and lock out at 50 degrees.
8:  The CMH models are rated down to 67 and lock out at 50 degrees.
9:  The CLM when combined with a KMS1872 or a KMS2472 is rated down to
32 degrees and locks out at 28 degrees.
10:  The CLM when combined with a KMS0772, KMS0972 or KMS1272 are rated
down to 23 degrees and locks out at 19 degrees.
All temperatures are dry bulb and in Fahrenheit.

11:  Q:  I changed the batteries in my remote and it does not work now.
A:  Push the ACL button in for 3-5 seconds, this will “reboot” the remote. If it still
does not work, replace the remote.

12:  Q:  What type of metering device do the new models use?
A:  They all use an electric expansion valve, which is located in the outdoor unit. It
is controlled by the outdoor circuit board.

13:  Q:  Do both lines have to be insulated?
A:  Yes, and they must be insulated separately.

14:  Q:  Do the indoor fans still run constantly?
A:  Yes, in cooling they run on low speed and in heat they run in low low. When the
unit is turned on there is no way to make the fan cycle off.

15: Q:   What size are the gauge port connections on the 410A
